Hey hey people…wait. I used that joke in the last blog post.
That said, I am happy to be back in the latest edition of Braden’s Blog Adventures.
As you all know, I am a gamer, probably to the detriment of my schoolwork, but I am gamer none the less.
One game I like playing is Dead by Daylight, made by Canadian video game company BHVR (shoutout to Montreal).
DBD is an asymmetrical multiplayer Survival Horror Game, which basically means it’s a 5-player 1v4 game where one player plays the Killer role whose job is to find and sacrifice the four Survivors. The four Survivor role characters have to complete 5 out of 7 generators scattered around the map to power up emergency exit gates that must be slowly unlocked to escape, while the last remaining Survivor has the option of tracking down an escape hatch as an alternative win condition.
For the grammar nutsos out there, each role is always capitalized in the context of DBD.
While Halloween has passed, the horror game continues its season event, Haunted by Daylight until November 7th. Players can smash pumpkins like it’s 1979, collect energy by completing their player objectives, and gather special wisps in the new Void mini-map accessed by swirling energy towers.
I played a little bit on the weekend, and by a little bit I mean a lot and it’s why I’m writing this just before my radio show. Don’t you love the honesty?
I found that the event gave a nifty little points bonus that was worth it to play with the pumpkins. Mind you, I only tried it from the Survivor’s side and did not try the Killer role’s perspective. The side objective is collect void shards and spend them in an altar at the Void to unlock one of two items: the unique Void Crystal can be shattered by survivors to create a smoke screen and hide their running tracks (scratch marks) from Killers. I tried it out and it was hit-or-miss, forgive the pun. If a player is skilled at the Killer role they use intuitive map knowledge and sound cues to track their opponents through the smoke cloud, and more inexperienced Killers may fall for the ruse. Killers on the other hand get a ranged ghost attack called Captive Haunt which launches forward in a straight line, and can injure survivors. As with the crystal, it comes down to your opponent’s player skill. Good Survivors can bait out the activated ranged attack and strafe to avoid the attack, and good Killers can predict it.
Overall, the Haunted by Daylight event is a standard seasonal twist on the same formula that has kept Dead by Daylight running since 2016. To be honest, it’s love it or hate it.
But you always love DJ Braden. If you do hate me, why would you give my show and my blog the time of day?
I’m on Mondays 1pm-3pm. Until next time.
