We were asked way back in the first semester, in September of 2023, why we all chose radio. Why did all 25 of us students choose Seneca’s Radio Broadcasting (RTVR) Program? We all went around the room and explained just why we chose it. Some said it was a second career they wanted to do, some that they wanted to do something similar, and some just cause they thought it was cool. I, on the other hand, had to figure out how to explain to my entire class that I decided at the last minute to change what field I was going into completely. To explain, I, for at least 2 years, had thought I wanted to go into psychology, specifically child psychology. This is because I like helping people and impacting a person’s life, but I have a lot of experience with children. I thought that if I went into child psychology, maybe I could relate to the children and help them through their problems that way, as well. I took all the necessary grade 11 requirements, but once I got to semester one of grade 12, I started to doubt if I wanted to do it. I thought about it for a few weeks, and then I decided I was not going to go into psychology, but I didn’t know what else to do. I took at least a month to research what I could do, and my brain would constantly drift back to radio. I love the radio, always have. Growing up, the radio was always on, and I always had the radio on at home and in the car. I knew I wanted to do it, but at the time, it felt like an unachievable dream. Now, being in the program and having amazing professors who are on the radio or who were on the radio at some point, we are encouraged to do our best and that if we try, we can succeed in the industry. Even though this started off as a “why did I choose radio,” it ended off as a “follow your dreams, you can do whatever you put your mind to” speech. As cheesy as it sounds, it’s true. You can do whatever you put your mind to. If you are meant to do something, you will do it, and it will happen for you.
Why Radio?
