In this Black History Month, I think of the elective course I’m now taking. The course has a long subject, being “Hear Me Talking to You – Black Music and Social Liberation”. There, for the first time, I listened to the full version of the famous speech that Martin Luther King, Jr. made on 28 August 1963 in Washington, DC. I also came to learn of Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, and some of their songs. Sadly I learned about social injustice. More regrettably, social injustice and racism are still common everywhere nowadays!
Martin Luther King , Jr. had said “I have a dream” for 8 times in his famous speech of 1963. I am a very practical person; I am not an activist of any sort. But, I’m also a dreamer — most of the time I only dream when I am sleeping! The Wikipedia describes that “Dream is a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep.”
I have many dreams, basically every night; very seldom that I don’t dream at all. And I find it extremely sleepy and tedious if I wake up right after having a dream which I can remember very clearly! I often dream of flying, jumping from very steep staircases … Perhaps because, in the real world, I’m so fond of travelling (mainly for pleasure), and have a bit of adventurous spirit. Somehow, I believe in: That which one thinks about during the day, is what one dreams about at night. Yet, I never make daydreaming😊
