Alright, you saw the title, you know what kind of post this is going to be.
Let me start off by saying this, when I’m at a movie theatre, I like to rest my legs on top of empty seats. To paint a picture for you, the back of my legs are the only part that lays on the top of the theatre seats, my shoes never touch the top because I don’t want the bottom of my shoes to have contact with where people rest their heads. I, at least, have that much consideration.
You can make your own judgements about me, but I guarantee we’re all guilty of this. With that out of the way, let me just say how absolutely disgusted I was with the lack of respect that my fellow movie theatre patrons had when I visited the theatres this weekend.
It’s like everyone has forgotten what its like to behave in a movie theatre. The first thing that annoyed me was the couple sitting a few seats away from my friends and I who were talking during the whole movie. Don’t get me wrong, I get lost when I watch movies and often look for clarification through my friends. But I do so, quietly. These two weren’t even talking about the movie, they were genuinely having fairly loud conversations throughout the night.
That was number one.
Then, there were people who were in the row in front of me who were constantly going on their phones. If my phone vibrates during the movie, I’ll check it but I’ll always put the brightness down as to not distract anyone. F.Y.I. your phone shouldn’t be that bright to start with, but that’s a whole other conversation.
As my friends and I sat in the very last row at the back of the theatre, we even saw an individual who brought his laptop. In 20 years of going to the movies, I’ve never seen anything as ridiculous as that.
However, my fellow readers, this is what topped the cake.
The group who sat in the row in front of us (who, as a side note, brought blankets with them) had one individual who decided to take her shoes off and go completely barefoot as she rested her feet on top of the movie theatre seat. Yes, the place where most people rest their heads is where she had her feet.
This is not a Quentin Tarantino movie, please put the dogs away.
This blatant disregard for theatre rules genuinely upset me to the point where I couldn’t even focus on the movie. When I told my two ‘stunad’ friends about all of this, they told me they didn’t even realize any of this was happening, hence me calling them ‘stunad’s’.
My problem is, I can’t mind my own business, the back of my brain is always thinking about other shit that’s going on. Maybe that’s a sign of ADHD, but who knows. All I know is that the video these theatres show before the movie plays is NOT ‘suggested’ or ‘recommended’. It’s not mandatory either, but still, you’re a dick if you don’t follow the rules.
If you want my opinion, I think this behavior can be linked back to streaming services. Everyone is so used to ‘making themselves comfortable’ that they think it’s appropriate to take their quirks, if you will, with them when they leave the house. News flash, turn off your phone, put your shoes on, and let everyone enjoy the movie in peace
Anyways, that’s my rant, spread the word if you know any flakes who are like this and give them shit on my behalf, please.
