Another week, another movie critique.
This week, I watched the latest movie starring, yet another one of Hollywood’s famous nepotism babies, Jack Quaid in Novocaine.
Novocaine follows Nathan Caine, a 30 year-old assistant manager at a Bank with a genetic-disorder that prevents him from feeling any physical pain, hence the name given to him by his high school bullies, ‘Novocaine’. When a robbery at Nate’s bank goes awry with the thieves taking his girlfriend, Sherry, as a hostage, Nate goes on an action-packed mission to track down the criminals and save his girlfriend from meeting a grizzly fate. It’s on this mission where Nate goes from being burdened by his genetic-disorder, to embracing his lack of feeling and truly tests the limits of what he can do to accomplish his mission of saving the girl he loves.
Eh…that description was so-so, but I think once you see the movie you’ll see that it’s pretty easy to sum up.
Well folks, the clouds have lifted. The dark days are gone and the bright days are here because we have finally gotten an original story that knocks it out of the park.
I found this to be a great movie, from the beginning to the end, I was completely hooked on the premise. The action was great, the comedy was on-point and didn’t feel forced, mostly. All-in-all, a pretty great movie. There are a few cheesy-lines in the movie that’ll have you shaking your head at times, but for the most part, this movie has a great power of making you feel like you’re riding along with Nate in this journey.
Now, I should caution you, this movie does have some moments where you might want to shield your eyes from the grotesque ways in which Nate utilizes his disorder to his advantage, and the ways in which his enemies punish him. However, It’s nothing too severe thankfully, as the film’s humour and the way Nate comedically brushes off a lot of the things that most people would find painful allows the viewer to approach these graphic scenes with a bit more ease.
Overall, a great watch, lots of fun and a lot of surprises to keep you on the edge of your seat.
You know I’m a sucker for a good movie poster. This one is prettaayy, prettaayy, pretttayyyy, pretty good.
8/10 – a good watch, recommended highly!
