Well, hello listeners.
Gone are the days of carrier pigeons and telegrams, but guess what: we have blogs now! This means that every Monday evening (or in this special case, Wednesday afternoon), you get the privilege– or perhaps the misfortune, depending on your perspective– of listening to and reading my yapping. Exciting, isn’t it?
Let’s talk music! Specifically, let’s talk about Spotify Daylists.
Considering that Spotify is one of the top three most popular music streaming platforms on Earth, I figure there’s a good chance many of you know what I’m talking about. However, for those less informed listeners, here’s a brief overview: Spotify has a ton of algorithmically-trained, A.I. generated playlist options. This ranges from genre mixes tailored to the artists you enjoy, all the way to things like “Discover Weekly,” a weekly 100-song playlist aimed at helping listeners find new music based on their weekly listening habits.
Basically, I think Daylists are Spotify’s magna opus of A.I. generated playlists. Multiple times throughout the day, Spotify will give you a buzzword-filled title (great for marketing! super, super trendy), along with a brief description of how you tend to listen at that time on that day of the week, and give you 50 songs based on it. Amazing, stunning, chef’s kisses– absolutely no notes.
As someone who was with Spotify when they dropped their first yearly Wrapped back in 2015 (then known as the “Year in Music”), I think it’s safe to say that the company has done a phenomenal job at finding their niche: uber-trendy, user data-based, A.I. generated content.
I mean, c’mon. Spotify Wrapped has the internet in a chokehold for like a month and a half every year. That’s good marketing, people!
Thanks for being a part of today’s yap session, listeners. And hey, if any of you are music addicts like I am, my Spotify is linked below. Themed playlists are a hobby of mine, maybe you’ll get a kick outta some of them!
