A movie that has made me feel so much emotion, in a happy way, is Ocean’s Eleven (2001). Ocean’s Eleven follows Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, a recently released convict that hatches a plot to rob three Las Vegas casinos in one night. The target, $160 million dollars. With the help of ten more people including Rusty, played by Brad Pitt, and Linus, played by Matt Damon and a plan in action it’s a race against the clock to steal $160 million dollars. Can they pull off the perfect heist?
This movie is so entertaining from beginning to end. The movie starts with an introduction to the main character, Danny Ocean, and this sets the tone of the movie. The music hits and you just know you’re in for a treat. The movie does a fantastic job with its characters. After the introduction to Danny Ocean the movie switches to other characters and their introductions and it’s all perfectly done. The music matches the personalities of each character perfectly so you know what each character specializes in. We get introduced to the movie’s antagonist, Terry Benedict, played brilliantly by Andy Garcia. Terry Benedict owns the three casinos the crew are trying to rob from. Whenever Benedict is on screen you get that feeling of “Don’t screw up, we have to be careful here”. In the mix of a huge payday there’s Tess, played by Julia Roberts. She’s with Terry, but Tess is Danny’s wife. This raises the stakes because there is an emotional element to the movie with Danny trying to win back his wife.
When the plot gets going, it gets going. At the one hour mark it’s showtime and the plan is in motion. It was all prep before, but it’s the real deal now. This part of the movie is so expertly done and is why this is a movie I can’t stop thinking about. From the music to the sharp editing it keeps your attention and you’re constantly questioning if they’ll be able to pull it off. When the movie ended I had the biggest smile on my face because it just felt so perfect.
Ocean’s Eleven is a masterpiece of storytelling, editing, and characters. The plot is easy to follow, the characters are very memorable, and the sharp editing gives the movie that punch which just makes it such a fun watch. It’s a movie that will leave you with a smile on your face and you’ll want to rewatch it again. I would give Ocean’s Eleven an 11/10 if I could.
