I’m going to keep this short and sweet.
Nobody likes Christmas music before December 1st.
Well, unless you’re a kid below 10. In that case there’s a good chance it hasn’t been worn out by age and the gradual loss of innocence. That, and if you are fundamentally unwell in some way.
Insensitive snark aside, Christmas music fired up at around the same time big box stores and retail shops set up their ornaments and decorations.
I keep going on and on about it, but at my workplace they began playing Christmas music after Remembrance Day, which would seem fine but EVERY. SONG. IS. A. CHRISTMAS. SONG.
The last two Christmas cycles they at least had the decency to have a few normal pop, glam rock, and hip-hop songs play between the overplayed music. And it is not even December.
Needless to say, I do my part and call it out to any customer who is willing to hear me out. I don’t overdo it but I will talk to customers that appear to invite conversation.
On another note, most of the Christmas music nowadays is repetitive. It’s a cliche thing to say but it’s true, there’s only so many ways you can cover Jingle Bells and Baby Please Come Home.
There are a couple of tunes that never get old though, Merry Christmas Baby and Let it Snow are always entertaining to listen to but the time of year has to be right.
And that right is honestly only in December and only until Boxing Day at best, and that might be cutting it close for some people who instantly want to turn the Hip Hop, Rock, and Pop back on.
I’ll put it to you all in the poll below…
